Temporary or Permanent Links

Since it was discovered that external links positively affect search rankings, webmasters and SEO optimizers have actively started using purchased links to boost their websites to the top of search engines and maintain those positions. However, search engine algorithms have become adept at identifying most purchased links based on typical characteristics and nullifying their influence on a website’s ranking in search results.

Rental Links

Rental links (temporary links) are links to your site from other websites for which you pay a monthly fee.

Advantages of Rental Links

  1. The cost of renting a link is significantly lower than purchasing a permanent link, meaning initial expenses for promoting the site are not high.
  2. A wide variety of websites from different niches offering link rentals.
  3. The ability to adjust the surrounding text, link anchor, and URL after placement (if necessary).
  4. The ability to remove the link at any time (for example, if it is marked as spam in the webmaster account or if it is not indexed by the search engine).

Disadvantages of Rental Links

  1. Monthly payments.

Permanent Links

“Permanent links” are links that are paid for once and remain on the site forever. In terms of optimizing costs for promotion, this seems appealing, but let’s examine all aspects.

Advantages of Permanent Links

  1. One-time payment. They are placed on the site once and for all, with no need for monthly payments.
  2. The link appears natural. This is due to the manual placement of the link, which is embedded in the article of the site and surrounded by relevant text.
  3. Trust of the donor site. Permanent links are often placed through exchanges that have high requirements for the sites selling these links.

Disadvantages of Permanent Links

  1. The “eternity” of the link. Paying for a link once does not guarantee that it will remain on the resource forever. The site may be sold, and the new owner can do whatever they wish, potentially removing all previously placed links. The owner may lose interest in the site and fail to renew the domain or hosting, leading to the site’s disappearance. Links can also be removed for other reasons, even though this is prohibited by the rules of buying and selling permanent links.
  2. Link indexing. Placing a link does not guarantee the indexing of the page that hosts the link, and a link that is outside the index will not benefit SEO promotion, meaning the money spent will be wasted.
  3. Changing anchor text or URL. Changing keywords in the anchor or altering the URL when the page address on your site changes is extremely difficult, if not impossible.
  4. Inability to remove the link. If a link is identified as spam by the search engine or you want to remove it from the donor site for other reasons, you most likely will not be able to do so.

SEO Specialist Tip: The growth of link mass should occur gradually and regularly. Permanent links are significantly more expensive than temporary ones. Assess whether your budget is sufficient for regular purchases of permanent links. Additionally, permanent links should only be purchased for sections of the site that will definitely not change URLs in the future (for example, due to changes in categories/sections/pages of the site or changes in CMS).
